Senators Force the VA to Get the Benefits to Family Caregivers – 18 Senators have sent a letter to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Eric Shinseki, and to the Office of Management and Budget urging the VA to carry out the law that provides supportive services to caregivers of wounded veterans.
This law, the Caregivers and Veterns Omnibus Health Services Act of 2010 enacted on May 5, 2010, has only provided support to around 80 veteran caregivers. The VA has been directed to begin providing caregiver support by January 30, 2011 and the Obama Administration has not set out its initial plan to carry out the law.
It has been reported that some family members of seriously wounded veterans have had to leave their jobs and make sacrifices without training, counseling, and financial benefits.
