Mum Fest

My wife and I enjoyed Saturday morning in New Bern with some friends.  Started out morning with breakfast at “Baker’s Square” on Middle St. in old town New Bern.  Then we walked down the block to the festival.  It was very nice – cool morning, morning being the key word.  At 9am, there are actually very few people, which was fantastic as I really dislike being trapped in the middle of a mass of people.  There didn’t seem to be as many vendors this year (retail).  There was a great variety of food vendors (which is why I attend these things).  I managed to get a funnel cake and some grilled corn and kettle corn.

The vendors credit card sales has become easier with “Square” and “Intuit” smart phone apps.  I personally use “Square” and this out-numbered the “Intuit” users.  They no longer have to take the credit card info and process sales at the end of the day or event.  It’s also safer for you as the credit card info is not saved in the devices  unlike the “end of day” or “end of event” processing.  They both offer text or email receipts for purchases.

Now I am currently looking forward to the Chili Fest this coming weekend (14-15 Oct) in Havelock, NC.  Lots of food as Friday night is Hot Wings cook off and Saturday is Chili cook off.  Funnel cakes, Philipino cuisine and much more.  Vendors, demonstrations, entertainment – it’s all here.

Look forward to seeing you at the Havelock Chili Fest.   God bless.
